FAQ 09: Offline Usage

The VDA QMC Tools Plattform are tools which are called Progressive Web Apps. These tools can be stored in the browser cache and are fully executable without access to the internet. As all data is also saved in the browsers database the data can be accessed directly from the PWA. The cache and data is always linked to the URL at the top, the browser and if you have different user accounts in the browser. Only in this constellation the data and application are directly accessible.

Open

A PWA is also installable (Safari, Edge, Chrome). You will find the install icon on the right sight the url box. This is install is different to the normal install process. The link between the browser and it’s cache still remains. The installed PWA mainly creates a quick access to the tool by providing an icon on the main screen and also hiding things like the browser menu bar or the URL. Nevertheless clearing the browser cache will result in the deletion of that stored data. Because of this soft install no additional rights are required.
